Irish coffee
Irish Coffee was invented when a flight was going from the USA to Ireland. After a grueling 18-hour flight the passengers were greeted with a sweetened coffee laced with whisky. A passenger asked “What kind of coffee is this?,” the response “Irish Coffee.” A tradition (and obsession) was born!
Irish Coffee
1 Cup of Hot Coffee
1 TBLS Brown Sugar
(Some people like 1 tsp white sugar and 1 tsp brown sugar)
1 Jigger Irish Whiskey (I used Jameson)
Heavy Cream
The Irish Coffee glass is used so you can see the separation of the coffee and the cream, and not burn your fingers.
Add the sugar to the coffee, the brown sugar has a molasses flavor and is richer in my opinion. Add the Irish Whiskey and stir it all together. Then it is time to top it with the cream. To help keep the cream on top it is best to use double whipped cream. Warm a spoon and carefully pour the cream on the spoon while it is held at the top of the coffee. It will look like a Guinness.
Enjoy the drink by drinking the coffee through the cream. Beautiful! But if the cream doesn’t stay on the top don’t worry. Mix it all together and enjoy. A lovely after-dinner drink. Always be responsible!
