Sometimes New Year’s Resolutions remind more of Lent than feel like the start of a new year. It is usually something that we give up – or a resolve to do something we really don’t want to do. Yes, we want to exercise more to be more healthy, yes we want to stick to a good/healthy eating plan to get ready for “bikini” season. But, usually, we don’t really want to exercise – we want to, want to exercise, we want to, want to eat healthy.
What if we decided to dedicate the year to something instead? For example, movement -use the year to try as many new activities you can come up with. A dance class, pure barre, yoga, riding a bicycle or horse, scuba, hiking, whatever strikes your fancy can be your goal. If you like it do more, if you don’t like it, move on. Maybe its food that you want to focus on? One year, I made a new pizza crust every Friday. I really wanted to master pizza crust cooked at home. It is fun to look back on that year and remember that we did that.
One year I dedicated to learning about and drinking better wine! Best resolution ever! I always wanted to know more about wine than just picking it out by the label!! Still working on this one!!
Our lives are hard, busy and complicated. I think it is better to choose something that gives us joy rather than focusing on what we are doing wrong. Also, I’m trying to think of ways to make things I must do better. So this year, among other goals, I am going to dedicate to:
LAUNDRY
I know it’s crazy, but this task is not is going away. So the goal is to make it as pleasant as possible. What are the best smelling laundry detergents? I want to be the master of removing stains. What is the best, easiest system for the whole “collect, sort, wash, dry, iron, fold, put-away” system. How can I make this chore better? Ok, its laundry or getting bi-monthly pedicures! HA!! Maybe there is room for both! What could you do to make your life better and a little less aggravating? Maybe this is how we bring some peace into the world!
